# Notes
>[!danger] Personal Note
>- [[Logan]] and I appeared to be the only people who entered the meeting and were not greeted at all by [[Blake Yeager]] or [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]].
>- I find it ridiculous that the slides are not shared after the meeting.
> - The stated reason was that parents might skip the meeting if they knew the slides would be distributed afterward.
> - However, both the swimmer and parent already sign an attendance sheet when entering. Attendance can therefore be documented without withholding the material.
> - Withholding the slides forces parents to concentrate on hurriedly transcribing information instead of listening closely. It also creates avoidable follow-up and correction work when the same information could be distributed accurately once.

## Spoken topic β Meeting opening and season launch
>[!quote] Spoken during meeting β Coaches, season launch, and mandatory registration
>- [[Blake Yeager]] opened the meeting by saying much of the information would repeat last yearβs parent meeting, but there were many new families, so he wanted to move quickly through the essentials.
>- Coaches for the program are [[Blake Yeager]], [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]], and [[John Krick]].
>- [[John Krick]] was not present at the meeting.
>- [[Blake Yeager]] said additional help is available when coverage is needed.
>- Winter season starts on Monday.
> - Swimmers must be registered in order to start Monday.
> - Monday begins in [[Blake Yeager]]βs classroom.
> - Actual swimming begins Tuesday.
>- A swimmer asked where the classroom is.
> - [[Blake Yeager]] said it is his classroom.
> - [[Peyton]] was expected to show swimmers where it is after the meeting.
>- Late clarification:
> - [[Blake Yeager]] said he does not really care if registration is complete Tuesday because he will not know until then, but the practical expectation remains that swimmers should be registered before starting.

## Physicals
### Must have a physical submitted through Final Forms in order to compete during high school season
- π [[Blake Yeager]] can help families upload physicals if needed.
- π Swimmers must mark swimming as their selected sport in [[Final Forms]].
- The selection is used for [[IHSA]] roster handling and helps identify who genuinely plans to participate.
- Some students select sports only to obtain weight-room access, even when they do not plan to participate.
- To make it easier for high school season all Elite Group Swimmers must have physical turned in by September 15th.
- If not turned in by the 15th swimmer can not practice with the club until this is done
- Anytime after April 1st you can get physical for following year
- π The athletic department is working to restore an on-site physical clinic, although coordinating the participating doctors has made that difficult.

## STUDENT-Athlete
### Grade Requirements
- IHSAA Rule: Must have 5 passing classes
- π Study hall does not count toward the five qualifying classes; an internship does count.
- CPSC/CPHS Rule
- Must have 5 classes with a Cβ or higher
- π The baseline state threshold is D-minus; the swim program deliberately uses the higher C-minus standard.
- If you do not have 5 classes higher than a Cβ you will not be allowed to practice. You will be expected at all practices and be sitting at the tables studying.
- This is also a time to go get help from a teacher or tutor, a note is needed
- NISCA
- Gold Medal Status: 3.75, Silver Medal Status: 3.50, Bronze Medal Status: 3.25
- 2026 Boys: 3.76, 2026 Girls: 3.51
### Athletic Council
- Paetyn Biancotti, Ryen Flanagan, Juliette Fancher, Sophia Snyder, Allie Landgrave, Abel Guel, Lucas Barnes, Collin Boot, Jackson Kuhlenschmidt
- π Most members are returning. [[Blake Yeager]] is taking over the council with [[Coach Swan]] after [[Coach Cyber]] moved up.
- π Attendance is mandatory; one absence is treated as the excuse, and after two the member will be removed and replaced.
- π The council provides resume and leadership experience. Previous topics have included leadership, [[NIL]], college coaches, and college athletic directors.

## Grade Checks
### September
- 8th
- 22nd
### October
- 6th
- 28th
### November
- 10th
### December
- 1st
- 10th
- π [[PowerSchool]] has been messy during the transition from [[RDS]].
- π The preliminary plan is to give [[Blake Yeager]] access to swimmersβ grades and attendance so checks do not consume practice or after-school time.
- If access is unavailable, swimmers will show their grades on their devices.
- Checks are expected about every three weeks.
## Communication
### Parentsquare
- Weekly Update
- Will have all practice times
- Any important information you need
- Dates of meets or meetings
- Swimmers
- During day everything MUST be done through computer
- π [[ParentSquare]] is the practical workaround for urgent communication under the schoolβs no-phone policy.
- Swimmers should keep it open on their computers for urgent pool, practice, or transportation changes.
- Text Yeager through parentsquare
- Need to have settings set for Instant
- π Settings must be changed on both the computer and phone; changing only the phone is insufficient.
- [[Blake Yeager]] plans to help swimmers change this setting on Monday.
- π Incoming freshmen will be added after registrations establish who is participating; the group must be newly created rather than transferred.
- Parents
- You can text Yeager through this (if you have my number you can use that as well)
- Yeager Email:
[email protected]
- John Email:
[email protected]
- Claire Email:
[email protected]
- π [[Blake Yeager]] and [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]] generally respond quickly; [[John Krick]] may be slower by email.
>[!danger] Personal Note
>I disagree with asking swimmers to enable instant [[ParentSquare]] notifications just for swimming. [[Blake Yeager]] described this as a way to βget aroundβ the schoolβs cell-phone rule, and I do not like using ParentSquare that way.
>
>ParentSquare is the schoolβs general communication platform, not a swimming-only channel. Enabling instant notifications is therefore likely to pepper swimmers with a large volume of school-related alerts that have nothing to do with swimming. Both the school and ParentSquare recommend using the daily digest instead of real-time notifications, which seems more appropriate and less disruptive.
>[!check] Follow-up

## Kitchen Utilities
### NOT USED DURING SCHOOL DAY
### Fridge (getting new one)
- Anything brought needs to be taken out by Fridays
- π The current fridge died after only about two or three years of use.
### Microwave
- Clean if you leave a mess inside
- π The microwave is in [[Blake Yeager]]βs office and may be used in the morning.
### Toaster
- Clean if you leave a mess
- π The toaster is in [[Blake Yeager]]βs office and may be used in the morning.

## Club vs High School
### Club
- Nothing Mandatory
- No volunteer for meets but would appreciate the help
- π Elite-group parents helped save a meet last year when the scoreboard failed and another parent was injured.
- Coaches pick events
- More time based
- π Club selection is time-oriented, while high-school lineups focus on points and winning races.
- Travel Meet each season
- Fall: Holland, Elkhart
- Summer: Pleasant Prairie, Terre Haute, Fort Wayne, Indy, Bowling Green
- In summer try to incorporate a fun activity and college tour
- π These activities are weather-dependent; weather disrupted the plan in [[Indy]].
- All home invites swimmers highly encouraged to swim
- Girls need a waiver for Tim Hamelin and Winter Invite
- π Girls do not need a waiver for [[Presidential]].
- Boys need a waiver for Winter Invite and Presidential Meet
- π Boys on the sectional lineup will not swim [[Presidential]].
- π [[Blake Yeager]] distributes waivers and has typically allowed swimmers to sign for parents unless a family objects; completed forms then go to the athletic department.
- Events
- Swim whatever events are offered at meet
>[!check] Follow-up
>- [ ] [[club swim]] understand how club expectations differ from high school swim expectations, especially volunteering, event selection, and meet goals. ([[Swimmers]], [[Parents]]) π½ π« 2026-08-19
### High School
- Varsity and JV line Up
- π JV commonly includes the 50 free, 100 free, possibly the 100 back, and JV-scoring relays.
- No volunteering for meets (unless you want to)
- Coaches make line up
- π Lineups vary by opponent and strategy. Against [[Merrillville]], varsity swimmers may rest while JV swimmers receive more races; against [[Chesterton]] or [[Valpo]], top swimmers are more likely to swim their best events.
- More points based
- Individual: 6,4,3,2,1
- π Fifth-place finishes matter because those points accumulate across a meet.
- Relay: 8,4,2
- Bus takes to away meets
- Parents can take athlete home if athlete lets coach know
- π Transportation choices depend on [[Final Forms]], but [[Blake Yeager]] strongly encourages swimmers to ride the bus to away meets because separate arrivals complicate coordination.
- Meets mandatory if on roster
- Conference and Sectional Spots based on top times in event
- π Spots also depend on overall team fit, not only raw times.
- Conference and Sectional Spots determine lettering
- Events
- Swim Record Board Events in order
- 2 Individuals and 2 relays
- 1 Individual and 3 relays

## Equipment
### All first year Elite Group Swimmers will get new gear bags
- π Fall club swimmers who do not yet have a bag will receive one; the bags carry the [[CPSC]] logo.
- Gear bags need to be hung up every practice on a hook
- π Bags will be stored in the locker room or back room for access.
- KickBoard, Snorkel, Pull Buoy, Paddles
- If you have a gear bag that should be out every practice unless told otherwise
- No using equipment in bins if you have your own
### Therapy Equipment
- Rollers: In back room
- Massage Guns: Yeagers Office Locker
- TheraBands: On Rack
- Lacrosse Ball: Yeagers Office Drawer
- Ice Massage Rollers: Freezer
- π The ice massage roller is currently unavailable because there is no working freezer.
>[!check] Follow-up
>- [ ] [[equipment]] distribute gear bags to fall club swimmers who do not yet have them. ([[Blake Yeager]]) πΌ π« 2026-08-19
## Locker Rooms
### Keep them clean
- Do not pile stuff to where it gets moldy and smells
- π [[Blake Yeager]] has found moldy piles during cleanouts before spring break and had to discard them.
- Hold everyone accountable
### Lock up your stuff
- Can not do much about lost things if your locker wasn't locked
- π Items are less exposed between morning and afternoon practice because the locker room is usually empty, but everything must be locked after afternoon practice.
### Phones
- Keep them put away while in locker room when people changing
### Music
- Should not hear music blaring down the hallways
- MUST BE CLEAN AFTER AFTERNOON PRACTICE
- π [[Dr. Terrill]] is particularly strict about profanity in facility music.
- π The school is developing a clean athletics [[Spotify]] account for practices and meets.
- π The clean-music rule applies during every season and throughout the [[Crown Point High School]] facility.

## Spoken topic β College recruitment
>[!quote] Spoken during meeting β College swimming search support
>- [[Blake Yeager]] said swimmers interested in college swimming should talk with him.
>- He invests significant time in helping swimmers explore college swimming options.
>- He can help even if a swimmer is undecided.
>- He has already set up college search sheets for non-freshmen who have expressed interest.
>- Example shown:
> - [[Blake Yeager]] used [[Jackson]]βs sheet because it was easier to understand.
> - Inputs include distance from home, major, desired competition level, and swim times.
> - [[Blake Yeager]] reviews swim programs across Division I, Division II, Division III, [[NAIA]], [[JUCO]], and any school with a swim program.
> - Schools are categorized in a workbook.
> - Swimmers then need to check whether the school has their degree and whether they have contacted the coach.
>- Color coding:
> - Green: school is still a realistic swim fit.
> - Yellow: swimmer probably needs to get faster, but the school is not outside the realm of possibility.
> - Red: school did not have what the swimmer wanted or was removed.
>- [[Blake Yeager]] created a general email template swimmers can tweak and send to college coaches.
>- [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]] has access to these sheets when needed.
> - [[Blake Yeager]] asked whether [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]] has access to [[Peyton]]βs.
> - [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]] confirmed.
> - Parents can also be given access so they can see what is happening.
>- Recruiting timeline:
> - [[Blake Yeager]] said recruiting has shifted earlier.
> - Previously a strong junior year could be enough.
> - Now junior year is when recruiting starts, so sophomore year needs to be the strong year.
> - He has heard top Division I schools are relying more heavily on the transfer portal and not recruiting freshmen unless the swimmer is at an elite level.
> - He mentioned examples such as [[Matty Borette]] and [[Friendly Bonas]] as high-level swimmers with Olympic Trials-level cuts.
> - He said even a junior national cut may not always draw attention now.
> - He referenced [[Jonathan Lee]] from [[Valparaiso]] having difficulty getting interest from [[Purdue]] because the transfer portal was the priority.
>- [[Blake Yeager]] will contact any college coach if a swimmer asks.
>- He clarified that he is mapping swim-time fit, not family finances or school affordability.

## Injuries
### If you get hurt go to the trainer (Melinda or Dan)
- π [[Dan Merrill]] is currently in the gym; [[Melinda]], a former swimmer with more swim-injury background, will return after football season.
If he/she says come in after school that means go straight there, not looking at the practice hanging out for 10 minutes
### Go see trainer before getting second opinions
- She can get you in sooner to Mullaly or Plank
- π Going through the trainer can accelerate access when direct appointments are booked weeks out.
### NEED A DOCTOR'S NOTE WHEN YOU VISIT DOCTOR
- π A common cold is treated differently, but injuries or conditions that remove a swimmer from the pool need documentation for the programβs legal record.
### New Athletes, Freshman, and Juniors have Concussion Testing on September 2nd
- π Testing will take about 30 minutes in [[Blake Yeager]]βs classroom.
- Sophomores and seniors will report to the pool.
- Tested swimmers will join practice after completing the test.
>[!check] Follow-up
>- [ ] [[injuries]] go to the trainer immediately when injured and provide a doctorβs note for any injury-related absence from the pool. ([[Swimmers]]) β« π« 2026-08-19
## Attendance
### Be On Time
- When practice starts at 5:30 or 2:55 that is when you should be ready to stretch on deck not walking in
- If going to be absent or late parentsquare me and let me know
- If coming late from class after school have a pass
### Sick
- If you are sick PLEASE STAY HOME. This team is together more than any other sport. When one gets sick half the team does
- π The team typically experiences a shared illness wave each year because swimmers spend so much time together.
- π The athletic department is scrutinizing attendance after spring-sport athletes reportedly missed school but still competed.
- Being tired and sore is not being sick. You should still be at practice

Thursday Swim 2:55-5:00
Friday Weights 5:30-6:55, Swim 2:55-4:30
Saturday Swim 6:55-9:00
- π Regular morning practices begin September 14, with an additional morning swim on September 8.
## Schedule
Listed above is the schedule through December
- π At the meeting, the schedule was complete only through November because [[Blake Yeager]] had lost seven school days. The finished version would include needed Christmas-vacation details.
- Everything is subject to change
- I will always post the next weeks schedule on Parentsquare
- Please plan accordingly with Fall Break, Thanksgiving, and Winter Break
- Thanksgiving and Winter Break are mandatory for HS Season
### 5:10 Rule
- If we get called for a 2 hour delay after 5:10 we will still have practice. If it is before 5:10 practice will be cancelled. We will have an extended morning practice and then not have afternoon practice. If this happens practice is not mandatory. I will always immediately send out a parentsquare either way
### School Cancel
- If they cancel school after we are at practice usually that will be a get sent home but would have to talk to admin first. If they cancel school before practice there is not practice.
## Practices
### Monday Morning Meetings
On days we have Athletic Council we will meet in Yeager's classroom directly after school at 2:50
- π Morning meetings and athletic council meetings also take place in [[Blake Yeager]]βs classroom.
There is a difference between attending practice and being there vs attending practice and working hard
- Have a purpose for every practice
Monday Distance/Sprint
Tuesday Stroke/Mid
Wednesday Distance/Sprint
Thursday IM/Mid
Friday Distance/Stroke/Sprint
## Weight Room
### NO PHONES
- π [[Blake Yeager]] identified enforcement as an athlete-facing issue he will handle directly; parents do not need to manage it.
Have to continue to work technique
Need to make sure we are lifting with a purpose and doing what is on sheet
All the lifts we do have some correlation/translation to the pool
Partner up with someone close to your size and lifts about same weight as you
Quick rotations, taking to much time between switching partners
### Apparel

## Suits and Warm Ups
### Same suit as last year
- π Ordering approximately 35 suits and 15 warmups for club swimmers early reduces the later high-school ordering load.
### Warm Ups
- Looking at doing same warm ups as last year. Goal being you won't have to buy a new warm up every year.
- You can order another one if you want
- Going to do an order early in September and then another in October.
- π Swimmers who already have the black warmup do not need another; swimmers who have outgrown it may reorder.
- [[Blake Yeager]] specifically noted that [[Logan]] probably needs a new one because he has grown.
- The goal is no more than two warmup purchases during high school, although [[BSN]] cannot guarantee the same model will remain available.
- Warmups need to be ordered before November 1.
- π For every $250 raised through sponsorships, $50 will be deducted from high-school team fees; club fees are unaffected.
- The high-school fee total was still being finalized and covers equipment, dinners, suits, and warmups.

## Apparel
We will be doing a travel meet shirt (Black)
There will be a store that opens next week with the High School Apparel for the season. We will do another order in November as well.
- π Families waiting for the November store may not receive items by Christmas.
Will be doing a store for the Valpo Meet for our cancer night meet
- π Cancer-meet shirts will again include names on the back and pink artwork on the front.
Order of Blue caps as well
- π Blue-cap pricing depends on reaching the vendorβs minimum quantity.
## High School Team Goals
### Girls
- Top 3 at DAC
- Win Sectional (5x)
- Top 20 State Finish
### Boys
- Top 3 DAC
- Win Sectional (Boys haven't won since 2009)
- Top 20 State Finish
## Club Team Meet Goals/Expectations
### Valpo Invite
- Preparation meet for Elkhart
- Get a feel of where we are at timewise
- Focus on specific things preparing for Elkhart
- π The [[Valpo]] meet is October 23β25, and no waiver is required.
- Swimmers who trained through fall break should not expect peak performances at this checkpoint.
### Travel Meet (Elkhart) November 6β8
- Must have Commitment by October 1st
- 40+ swimmers attend
- Tapered, Suited
- 50% best times, 100+ final swims
- Sign the sheet if you already know you can go
- π After [[Elkhart]], the program shifts fully into high-school mode.
- The girlsβ season starts around October 25, but [[Ingerman]] has historically allowed club swimmers to remain with [[Blake Yeager]] through the meet.
- The boysβ season begins November 9.
- π The October 1 deadline is necessary because payment is due before the club season begins; families will not be charged until after that date.
- π [[Blake Yeager]] expects to keep the trip below $300 per swimmer.
- A [[Notre Dame]]β[[Miami]] home football game is driving hotel prices up.
- Current rooms are about $265 for five swimmers; comparable [[Home2 Suites]] rooms were listed near $750.
- Food generally costs a little over $100, and the club usually helps pay for vans.
### Crown Point Swim Club Meets x3
- Girls Waiver for Tim Hamelin and Winter Invite
- Boys Waiver for Winter Invite and Presidential
- π Girls do not need a [[Presidential]] waiver, and their high-school season will already be over.
- [[Blake Yeager]] wants girls at boysβ sectionals on Saturday, making Sunday the most practical Presidential day.
- π [[Presidential]] falls on boysβ sectional weekend.
- Boys on the sectional lineup will not swim it.
- It may still help a swimmer seeking a relay-related time, although Saturday-morning swimming raises fatigue and timing concerns.

## Club Team Meet Goals/Expectations β Post-season
Last Season we had the best turn out after high school season. This needs to continue to be a focus.
### Divisionals
- All attend that have cuts (unless you have a full senior state line up)
- 75% make it back for finals
### Senior State
- At ?, doing as a travel meet
- π Senior State is currently at [[Pike High School]]; whether it becomes a travel meet depends on the available swims.
- π [[Speedo Sectionals]] moved one week earlier, immediately after Senior State.
- The back-to-back meets create additional swimming, missed school, and hotel expense.
- Fewer teams may attend Senior State because Speedo Sectionals now occupies a major state weekend.
- 50+ swims between individuals and relays
- Top 15 team score
- 17th place 2026
- π The team was reportedly about four points behind [[Brownsburg]] for 16th.

## Expectations vs Reality
### Have to do better job of managing expectations
- If you didn't swim this summer or swam sparingly the chances to be doing best times in November are exponentially lower.
- π This point was prompted by swimmers and parents becoming upset about results without relating them to training attendance.
- π Swimmers who consistently resume training should be back in shape by November.
- If you miss a week of practice for vacation or miss a week because of being sick it will take time to regain what you lost
- π Missing fall-break practice occurs during club season and leaves more recovery time; Christmas-break practice is mandatory and much closer to the end of the high-school season.
- Many swimmers told both Angerman and I after high school season that you would be doing this or that to stay in shape or get faster in summer
- Some didn't sign up for club or came to less than 25% of practices
- Practice percentage as a whole for elite group over summer was under 45%
- Swimmers over 75%-
- π Only about four swimmers exceeded 75% summer attendance.

## Parents
### We get asked a lot what can you do as parents to help, here is what would help:
- Be mom and dad (Let the coaches be the ones they go to about swim)
- π Parents may ask questions, but [[Blake Yeager]] may quickly close down questions about assignments to particular high-school lineup events.
- π [[Claire Kuhlenschmidt]] was also presented as accessible, with open communication among the coaches.
- Be the kids biggest cheerleader
- π Parents invest as much time as swimmers, even when swimmers do not recognize it. [[Blake Yeager]] said coaching feels harder than swimming did because coaches stand on deck throughout the night.
- Some swims may not always be the best but the time was good and sometimes might be the best time but the swim was bad.
- The kids always love snacks at practice
- Senior Night January 21 (Lowell)

## Spoken topic β Why the slide deck is not sent out
>[!quote] Spoken during meeting β Meeting information distribution
>- [[Blake Yeager]] said his intention is not to send the meeting information out afterward.
>- Rationale:
> - He does not want people who skip the meeting to assume they will get the information anyway.
> - He believes this may be part of why the October 5 high school winter sports meeting became mandatory.
>- Families with individual questions were invited to come up afterward.
>[!check] Follow-up
